Are you ‘Mad as a March Hare’ with social media?

When I ask people why social media isn’t working for their business, I get the same answer (or draw the same conclusion) time and again: ‘I don’t plan ahead.’ Well, as the saying goes, ‘Fail to plan, plan to fail’! That might sound a bit harsh, but let’s put it in context. Would you set up a business without planning what products and services you wanted to sell? Or decide to get married without having a think about where and when – or who to? I’d like to think not!

The same principle applies to social media. Getting online and going at it like a bull at a gate, setting up profiles and doing nothing with them, or posting random content once in a blue moon will all have the same results for your business: no chance of getting the results you want. Social media with a plan in place, on the other hand, is like a house built on solid foundations – it’s been done properly, so the results will be strong and long-lasting.

So, why don’t more people plan their social media effectively? There are several reasons, lack of time and inclination being just two of them. But having done a lot of research in this area, I can tell you there’s normally one common denominator that outweighs the rest: lack of confidence.
