One question I’m being asked a lot this summer (well, every summer!) is: “Do I still need to post on social media in August, with so many people shutting up shop and going on holiday?” Well, it’s up to the individual, of course. However, I do find that keeping the momentum going over the summer months can be beneficial for the simple reason that there’s less ‘noise’ out there. As a result, your posts are more likely to be noticed.
There’s also the fact that people use social media a lot when they’re on holiday. After all, what’s the first thing you probably do when you settle down at the beach, by the pool or in the hotel bar? Open up your phone and check out Instagram, Facebook, Twitter et al, of course. People love to ‘check in’ to all the interesting places they visit on their travels, too (I know I do!) and you almost have a captive audience in some respects.
So, my short answer to the above question is: “Yes, but it’s probably OK to dial it down a bit.” This will free up a little time, especially if you’re not mega-busy with day to day work due to the holiday season. It’s a great opportunity to work on your business rather than in it and explore ways you can grow your business by brushing up on your skills and knowledge.
And if social media is one area where you’re a little lacking, I can help. I meet so many business owners who are wary, or even a little scared, by social media and see it as some kind of dark art! People of ‘a certain age’ often tend to think it’s something for kids rather than grown-ups, whilst freely admitting their own kids run rings around them in terms of technology and online prowess.
That’s where my course, Social Media with Confidence comes in. The clue’s in the name, as the course aims to help you stop being a social media scaredy cat and give you the knowledge and skills you need to succeed online. It’s a one-month online programme and the next one starts on Monday 20th September. We’ll work through all the key aspects of social media in small steps, helping you navigate the social media maze alongside likeminded business owners.
Social Media with Confidence focuses on three key platforms: Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn. Why? Well, my research has told me that these are the channels people tend to struggle with the most. (Of course, if you use other platforms such as Twitter and Pinterest, you can apply your learnings to these also.) You’ll be set simple, 10 minute daily tasks – breaking your learning down into bitesize chunks so you can easily digest the information and start using your new knowledge straightaway.
You’ll also have access to a private Facebook group where you can interact with your fellow delegates to share ideas and experiences, and benefit from lots of useful insights and videos that I’ll be posting regularly. And there’ll be weekly, live check-ins where you can ask me all your questions, or catch up on the video recording later if you can’t make it.
So, what exactly will we be covering in Social Media with Confidence? Here’s a sneak preview:
- Why so many people don’t use social media effectively
- Simple techniques to create and maintain an effective online presence
- Time-saving planning techniques to help you stay on track
- Conversion tactics to turn followers into paying customers
- Content creation, audience-building…and much more!
At the end of the course, it’s my goal to help you feel enlightened, confident and, above all, in a position to enjoy using social media. (You might think that’s a little far-fetched, but believe me, many previous delegates have gone from hate to love over the 4 weeks – and you could be joining them!)
