Keep calm and carry on learning!

In the mad times we’re living in now, there’s understandably a lot of uncertainty going on. For smaller business owners, the threats posed by coronavirus can feel overwhelming – but remember, we’re all in the same boat and here to support each other. In my view, the best approach is to put the bad stuff to one side for a while and focus on what we can do, not what we can’t do.

If you’re having to self-isolate, or your business is having some downtime, there’s still plenty of ways to be productive and make efficient use of your time. Why not take the opportunity to focus on some self-improvement activities and develop your skills, so when you’re back in the saddle (and you WILL be!), you’re even better equipped to deliver the goods than before?

Personally, I’ll be using some of the extra time on my hands to give the house a spring cleaning and take care of those domestic jobs that never seem to get done! But at the same time, I won’t be neglecting my business. OK, so I can’t meet clients face to face, but I can reach out on the phone, on Facebook Live (look out for me on Friday mornings) and through webinars. That’s why I’ve been working on a series of new workshops to enhance my online programme and which I’ll also be running in the wider online community.

It’s times like these that the mantra ‘Every experience in life is a lesson to be learned’ really comes into play. So if, like me, you want to take something positive out of our current situation, I’m inviting you to join in with my new online workshops. Let’s turn our attention away from coronavirus for a while and direct our energies towards developing better social media and sales skills. (As fun and interactive sessions, my workshops also offer a great opportunity for some much-needed, risk-free social engagement!)

Here are the details:

Workshop 1: ‘It’s not selling, it’s building better relationships’ (2.5 hours, 30th March)

Which would you prefer: a hard sales pitch or a friendly conversation about how you and a new contact could help each other? I know which one I’d respond to! Sadly, old-school sales pitches are still all around us – but for most people, they just don’t work.

In this workshop, we’ll explore how we can move away from formulaic sales questioning towards a relationship-based approach that enables you to build rapport with your contacts. You’ll learn to focus on the customer experience instead of the sale, and how to listen to and understand your clients’ needs so you can meet their expectations.

We’ll also look at productive questioning techniques you can use to encourage your prospects to tell you about their situation. This gives you the chance to pitch ideas around how you can help solve their problems, rather than putting them under pressure to buy.

Workshop 2: Building your business with social media (get in touch for dates)

This is a core skills masterclass for anyone wanting to make the most of the amazing opportunities that social media has to offer. Whether you’re new to using social media for business, or use it but want better results, this workshop is for you.

We’ll start by looking at how to create a robust strategy for your social media activities (see my last blog article to find out why this is so important). Next, we’ll look at building your audience by answering questions like ‘Who’s your ideal customer?’, ‘Where do they hang out online?’, ‘How should you communicate with them?’ and so on.

Lastly, we’ll work on how to create engaging written and non-written content that makes your audience sit up and pay attention and drives those all-important enquiries, leads and conversions. In a nutshell, it’s all about turning prospects into paying customers.

Workshop 3: Call with confidence (get in touch for dates)

This workshop is all about using the phone successfully for business development. This is something that lots of people shy away from, preferring to send an email instead. But when it comes to following up leads and building relationships, nothing beats making a phone call – even in today’s digital age.

During the workshop, we’ll look at creating a strategy and a plan for the calls you want to make, that will help you achieve your business objectives. We’ll also discuss language and the right words and phrases to use (and not use!) to maximise the impact of your calls, avoid common mistakes and handle objections successfully.

By the end of the session, you’ll have the skills and knowledge to make effective, productive phone calls that get the results you want by showing your clients how you can add genuine value to their businesses.
