Social media coach: How to stand out on social media

Content, content, content – it’s all about content. In today’s fast-moving, communication-driven world, pulling customers in has never been more important. Gone are the days when selling your wares was all about having the best price-point and the loudest advert, nowadays things are a lot more subtle.

Following on from our previous post about creating a customer Avatar, the next step in marketing your business on social media is to work out how to introduce yourself. What interests your Avatar? What do they most want to read? And, most crucially, what will most tempt them to want to buy into what you are offering?

Creating great content for your social media platforms is not about the person writing it, it is about what they write. And, believe us when we say that eye-catching, engaging content really is where it’s at. To create content that will appeal to the Avatar, what we will do is use information that we know about them, gleaned from social media techniques that lead us to get to know our audience as well as we possibly can.

So, based on your Avatar’s profile – their gender, their likely age, their location, their job title, we can start to work out what will interest them most. The trick is to make social media postings interesting and relevant. As we have said in a previous blog, this is not about being overly ‘salesy’, it’s about publishing content that will engage. That done, your Avatar customer is much more likely to be interested in what you have to offer.

Based on geographical location, for example, a business could create content based around that location to publish things that might be of interest. If your Avatar is a parent, then ideas to keep kids happy are always a winner. With a little thought, you’re much more likely to get it right.
