What are you doing to futureproof your business?


At the end of my last blog article, I mentioned the work I’ve been doing recently to help some of my clients create a bespoke online programme for their businesses. This may have intrigued you as it’s not a service you’ll find on my website. However, it’s something I’ve been asked about more and more over the last 6 weeks or so, and I’ve decided this is the right time to let the cat out of the bag.

Let’s rewind to about three years ago. I was looking for a new string to my bow business-wise and came up with the idea of creating an online programme for social media training. I’d never done anything like this before and simply took the plunge and got on with it. Luckily, it worked! And since then, I’ve used my self-taught skills and knowledge to help other business owners develop their own online offerings.

As noted above, this isn’t something I’ve ever really shouted about. However, the events of recent weeks have meant that pretty much everything that can go on the web has gone on the web – and many business owners without an online programme have been left out in the cold. Your next question could well be: “What types of businesses will online programmes work for?” The answer is: almost any type, including those that you perhaps wouldn’t expect to offer their services online. The Covid-19 lockdown situation is the proof of the pudding here, as literally thousands of companies have successfully made the “pivot to digital” and replaced face to face contact with online services. Business networking is a superb example, with most existing groups swapping to Zoom or similar platforms and maintaining – or even growing – their membership levels.

So, how does my online programme development service work? It’s a simple, but highly structured, process where we get together (online, naturally!) for a 2 hour session to discuss what you want to achieve from you new web-based offering. We’ll discuss what the programme will look like, who it’s aimed at, how your clients will benefit and how you’ll evaluate your results. When it comes to implementing your new online programme, there are two options. You can take the cost-effective route if you’re on a budget, which avoids the need to invest in new infrastructure. For more established businesses, I recommend investing in your own online portal which you’ll use to manage and run your programmes. We’ll discuss which option suits you best during the session.
