What can Eurovision teach us about business?

Love it or loathe it, Eurovision was a BIG deal for the UK this year, with Liverpool hosting the event on behalf of Ukraine and (almost) the whole nation joyfully reflecting the 2023 slogan of ‘United in Music’. There were parties, celebrations, fancy dress competitions, sweepstakes and, above all, lots of fun! And, whilst running a business might not always be lots of fun, it’s these elements of collaboration and community spirit where the common denominator with Eurovision can be found.

In today’s tough economic times, these elements are more important than ever. And even if things aren’t going quite as well as you’d like right now, there’s always scope for celebrating your wins – however small – and feeling a sense of pride in what you and your business have achieved. For me, this was one of the best outcomes of my inaugural Social Media for Trainers (& Coaches) course, which launched earlier this year and has just drawn to a close.

‘United in Social’

What a fantastic bunch of delegates! They genuinely embraced the opportunity to come together with other trainers and coaches, unpick their social media challenges and share ideas and inspiration with each other outside of the training sessions themselves. The WhatsApp group I set up proved a particularly powerful medium for group discussion and was clearly seen as a ‘safe space’ for the delegates to talk openly and honestly.

As the programme went on, I was immensely gratified to see the conversations becoming more and more positive over the 12 weeks, as the trainers and coaches put what they were learning from each session into practice. Comments like ‘I tried it and it really worked!’ and ‘I can’t believe what I’m achieving now’ truly made my day, I can tell you.

All this was especially gratifying as I know just how hard it can be for trainers and coaches to grasp social media successfully. There’s so much going on in their businesses (as I know very well from experience), from preparing training materials to running sessions and workshops and providing follow-up materials, that it’s not surprising marketing activities often fall by the wayside. Changing how you do things and refocusing on working on your business as well as in it is tough. In fact, I often refer to it as tantamount to turning a cruise ship around!

However, if you’re a trainer or coach and the above is ringing a few bells, I have some great news for you. In the run-up to the next cohort of the 12 week Social Media for Trainers & Coaches programme in September, I’m offering a FREE five-day mini course, starting on Monday 26th June. It’s a taster of what to expect from the full programme, so you can decide if it’s right for you and your business.

About the mini course

The mini course will run for 30 minutes every day at 8:30am. I’ll host the sessions on Facebook Live, using a private Group that you can only access if you sign up. Each one will be recorded and made available in the Facebook Group for two weeks, so you can easily catch up if you can’t make every session. Of course, the Group will also be open 24/7 for you and your fellow delegates to chat about your social media experiences and bounce ideas off each other – just like the WhatsApp group in the main programme.

The mini course will briefly cover some of the key themes you can expect from the full 12 week course, such as social media strategy, building an audience, content creation, engagement and conversion techniques. There’ll be nuggets of practical, hands-on advice you can start using straightaway, as well as a sprinkling of time-saving hints and hacks.

Social Media for Trainers & Coaches (the Full Monty)

Of course, there’s no obligation to subscribe to the full programme if you attend the mini course. But it’s certainly worth considering if you’re a trainer or coach who’s struggling to make the most of social media. The second cohort kicks off on Monday 4th September at 11am and will run for 12 weeks. I’ll be putting what I’ve learnt from the first cohort into practice, so I promise it will be even bigger and better than before!

If you book sooner rather than later, you can even take advantage of my special Early Bird price of £695 (usual price: £895). And to make things even easier, you can choose to pay in instalments whether you’re paying the Early Bird price or the full amount. What’s more, joining the programme gives you lifetime membership. So, if you decide you need to refresh your social media skills in the future, you can join another cohort at no extra cost!

You can find out more about the Social Media for Trainers & Coaches course, what you’ll learn and read feedback from previous delegates at my dedicated website.
